Immortals battle guide

Immortals is a 3D hero battle between two sides, the Sunward and the Gloam. You play one hero, with computer teammates beside you. Waves of creeps march down three lanes, guarded by towers and barracks, and the match is won by shattering the enemy Ancient. This guide covers the controls, the economy and the habits that win matches.

How a match works

  • Draft a hero. Each of the twenty-four heroes has four abilities on Q, W, E and R, and a role: some hold the front line, some heal, some strike from range.
  • Creeps march down the top, middle and bottom lanes. Fight beside them, push towards the enemy towers, and defend your own.
  • Destroy towers, then barracks, then the enemy Ancient. When it is shattered, your side wins.

Controls

  • Move and attack: right-click on the ground or on an enemy.
  • Abilities: Q, W, E and R. Learn or upgrade one with Shift and the same key.
  • Items: 1 to 6. Shop: B. Recall home: T. Boons: N.
  • Camera: C changes the camera angle and Space centres it on your hero. Scoreboard: Tab. Ping: Alt and click.
  • On a phone or tablet, turn the device sideways; the game has touch controls.

Gold, items and the courier

  • Land the final hit on enemy creeps to earn their gold. Last-hit your own dying creeps to deny the enemy their gold.
  • Open the shop with B. At your fountain, purchases go straight to your inventory; elsewhere the courier brings them to you.
  • An item you own can be sold back for half its price. Spare items can wait in your backpack.
  • If your hero falls, you can pay gold to buy back and return to the fight at once.

Towers and barracks

  • Towers target creeps first, unless you strike an enemy hero within their reach. Attack heroes under an enemy tower only when you can win quickly.
  • Let your creeps take the tower’s first shots, then join in.
  • Destroying a lane’s barracks makes your creeps in that lane stronger for the rest of the match. Break every barracks and they become mega creeps.

Runes, night and the river boss

  • A power rune appears in the river every two minutes. Double Damage can turn a fight, so send someone for it.
  • At night every hero sees less. Place a Watcher Totem to keep a lane safe from surprise attacks.
  • The Old Warden waits in its pit by the river. Group with your team before you take it on.

Boons

  • Boons are permanent upgrades. You choose one at each of levels 10, 15, 20 and 25: press N when a boon is available.
  • Pick the boon that strengthens what your hero already does well, whether that is damage, healing or staying alive.

Tips

  • Last hits first. Early gold decides the middle of the match. Hit creeps only as they are about to fall.
  • Recall to restock. Low on health or mana? Press T to go home and come back with new items.
  • Watch the minimap. If enemy heroes are missing, they may be on their way to you.
  • Push together. A lone hero under an enemy tower is an easy target; a group with a creep wave breaks towers.
  • Defend your Ancient. A match is never over until one Ancient falls.
