How to play
- Drag a brick from the tray onto the grid, or tap it and then tap a square. The brick’s top-left corner lands on that square.
- Fill a whole row or column to light it out. Rows and columns that fill at the same time clear together.
- Bricks don’t rotate unless you spend a surge charge. When a brick fits nowhere it goes dark in the tray; when nothing fits, the round ends.
- Use all three bricks and the tray refills with three new ones.
Flares and dead cells
A flare lights up on an empty square with a countdown. Every brick you place counts it down by one.
- Catch it: cover the flare with any brick before it reaches zero for +40 points and a burst of surge.
- Miss it: it burns out into a dead cell, a dark square you didn’t choose. Dead cells stay until their row or column is cleared, or until you smash one with the Hammer.
- Deeper levels light more flares at once, with shorter fuses. Look at the numbers before you place: a flare showing 1 or 2 comes first.
Points: prisms, chains and lumens
- Every square you place is worth a point. Clearing lines is worth far more, and two lines at once score four times as much as one.
- Prisms: a cleared line made of a single colour fires as a prism, worth roughly ten plain lines. When the preview ring turns gold, the drop will make one.
- Chains: clears on back-to-back moves raise a multiplier. A chain survives one quiet move, so you can set up the next clear; two quiet moves break it.
- Lumens: the brightness of the grid. Higher lumens add to the points for every line. In Endless they rise every eight lines and each rise gives a free charge.
Surge and powers
Catching flares and clearing squares fill the Surge meter. Each time it fills, you earn a charge (⚡), up to five. Powers never cost a move:
- Rotate (1 ⚡): turn a brick in the tray with its ↻ button.
- Undo (2 ⚡): take back your last placement.
- Hammer (2 ⚡): smash any one filled square, often the dead cell blocking a line.
- New bricks (3 ⚡): swap the whole tray for three new bricks when nothing fits.
Keep at least two charges in hand on hard levels: an Undo or a Hammer at the right moment saves a run.
Levels, targets and stars
The Journey runs through 20 chapters of levels, from Spark to Supernova. Each level has one target and a move limit:
- Clear a number of lines, score a number of points, or catch a number of flares.
- Clear dead cells: the grid starts with some, and you clear them by filling their rows or columns.
- Clear every marked cell, or reach a chain of a given length.
Stars depend on the moves you have left when you reach the target: about a third of the moves to spare earns three stars. Replay any level from Levels to improve your stars.
Tips for three stars
- Keep the middle open. Build along the edges first so the long 4- and 5-square bricks always have room.
- Leave room for the 3×3. One open 3×3 area means no brick can ever strand you.
- Set up doubles. Fill two neighbouring rows together, then clear both with one brick.
- Match colours on purpose. Lines that are nearly one colour are worth finishing with the same colour for a prism.
- Catch flares on the way. Place bricks that clear a line and cover a flare in the same move.
Daily and Endless
The Daily puzzle is one level for the day, the same bricks in the same order for every player. It changes at midnight on your device. Open it from the Daily button, or from our Daily puzzles page.
Endless has no move limit: targets appear one after another and reward points or charges, and the run ends when nothing in the tray fits. Your best scores go on the Ranks board on your device.
Questions
Does Lumibrix work offline?
Yes. After your first visit it keeps a copy in your browser and keeps working without a connection.
Is the daily puzzle the same for everyone?
Yes. Every player gets the same level and the same bricks, in the same order, for the day.
Are my ranks shared with other players?
Not at the moment. The Ranks board shows the best scores made in your browser, under your three-character tag.
