Privacy policy
JPAM Maps keeps your saved places on your device and uses your location only after you allow it. The app requires no account and includes no advertisements, analytics, or tracking. To show the map and answer your searches, it uses the public map services listed below.
Effective date: November 5, 20261. Who We Are
JPAM Maps is developed by JPAM Studio (Paul Allan Manacap) and published at jpam.studio.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, contact us at [email protected].
2. Information Stored on Your Device
JPAM Maps does not require an account or ask for your name, email address, or other contact information.
The following information is stored locally in your browser on your current device:
- Your lists of saved places, your recent places, and the places you set as Home and Work
- Your settings: map style and layers, kilometers or miles, and whether spoken directions are on
- The last area you looked at, so the map opens there next time
This information remains on your device. JPAM Studio cannot access or view it. You can remove it at any time by clearing the site data for jpam.studio in your browser settings.
3. Your Location
When you open JPAM Maps, it asks your browser for your location so the map can start where you are. Your browser asks for your permission first. If you decline, the map opens on the globe, and the app asks again only when you select Near me, the location button or Use my location.
Your location is used in your browser to show where you are, to sort nearby results and, during guidance, to follow your progress. It is not sent to JPAM Studio and is not stored by the app. It leaves your device only in these cases:
- When you ask for directions from My location, or guidance reroutes you, your position is sent to the routing service as the start of the route.
- When you open the My location card, its coordinates are sent to the address and weather services to show the address and weather there.
- When the map is centred on where you are, the area on screen, and so roughly where you are, is part of the requests described in section 4.
You can turn location access off at any time in your browser’s site settings.
4. Map Services the App Uses
JPAM Maps is built on free public services. Your browser contacts them directly; nothing passes through JPAM Studio’s servers. Like any website, each service receives your IP address and basic browser information with every request, under its own privacy policy:
- OpenFreeMap (map tiles, map style and label fonts): the parts of the map you view.
- Esri (satellite imagery) and Amazon Web Services (3D terrain elevation, from the open Terrain Tiles dataset): the parts of the map you view with satellite imagery, the Terrain style or 3D terrain.
- Photon by komoot (search and addresses): what you type in the search box and the area on screen, so nearby results come first, and the coordinates of a place whose address is looked up.
- Overpass API (overpass-api.de, run by FOSSGIS e.V., with overpass.kumi.systems as a backup; nearby places by category and place details): the area on screen when you choose a category, and the OpenStreetMap identifier or name and position of a place you open.
- FOSSGIS e.V. routing (routing.openstreetmap.de; driving, walking and cycling routes): the start and end of each route you ask for. FOSSGIS states that route requests are kept in its server logs.
- Open-Meteo (weather and air quality): the coordinates of the middle of the map, or of the place you open.
- Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons (place summaries and photos): the name or identifier of the place you open, when it has a Wikipedia article.
Spoken directions are made by your device’s speech engine. Some browsers use an online voice service from their maker, such as Google or Microsoft, to produce them.
The map library and fonts are delivered from jpam.studio itself.
5. Links to Other Services
Some buttons open other websites in a new tab, only when you select them: Street View and Reviews & photos open Google Maps, transit trips open Google Maps or Apple Maps, Edit on OpenStreetMap opens OpenStreetMap, and a place’s website, phone number and Wikipedia article open as usual. Share and Share ETA use your device’s share sheet or copy a link or message for you to paste. Those services have their own privacy policies.
6. What We Do Not Do
JPAM Maps:
- Does not display advertisements
- Does not use analytics or tracking technologies
- Does not use cookies
- Does not send your location, searches, routes or saved places to JPAM Studio’s servers
- Does not include purchases of any kind
- Does not sell or share personal information
7. Hosting
Cloudflare
Cloudflare provides hosting, content-delivery, and security services for jpam.studio.
Like other website-hosting and security providers, Cloudflare may process limited technical information—such as your IP address—to deliver the website, maintain its security, and protect it from malicious activity.
For more information, please review Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
8. Children’s Privacy
JPAM Maps is a general map for everyone. JPAM Studio does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone through the app, including children. As described above, the map services and Cloudflare may process limited technical information when delivering the map and the website.
9. Your Choices
Because your saved places and settings are stored locally, you remain in control of them.
- Remove saved places and lists from Saved, and clear your recent places under Recents.
- Remove everything by clearing the site data for jpam.studio in your browser settings.
- Turn off location access for jpam.studio in your browser’s site settings.
- Use a private browsing window. In most browsers, locally stored data is removed when all private windows are closed.
10. Changes to This Policy
If JPAM Maps adds a new service or an online feature, such as accounts or places shared between devices, or is released as an app for iPhone or Android, we will update this Privacy Policy to explain what information is processed, why it is needed, and how it is handled.
The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last updated.
