Simoy Marine is made by one person, so replies can take a few days.
Getting started
How do I see the forecast for a place?
Tap anywhere on the map, or search for a harbour, town or coordinates such as 14.5, 120.9. Tap the star to save it, and it appears under Saved.
How do I change units to knots, metres or feet?
Open Settings and choose units for wind, waves, temperature, distance, pressure and rain.
How do I plan a passage?
Open Route and tap the map to drop waypoints, or use the route button on any spot forecast. Simoy Marine shows arrival times, the wind along the way and the best departure times. Choose sail or power and set your cruising speed in the planner.
How do I get alerts for storms or strong wind?
Save the places you care about, then open Alerts. Simoy Marine checks the forecast for each saved place and shows tropical cyclones, gales, rough seas, thunderstorms, heavy rain and fog, plus any rules you add. Alerts appear inside the app; Simoy Marine doesn't send push notifications.
How do I see the tides?
Choose Tides in the layers list, then tap the sea near a place or search for one. Simoy Marine marks whether the tide is rising or falling and when the next high or low water is, and opens the Tides & sky tab with the tide curve. Where a tide station is nearby, its high and low water times are shown too, marked ◇ on the chart.
Troubleshooting
Simoy Marine says it can't reach the weather service
Forecasts need an internet connection. Check that you're online; Simoy Marine switches back to live forecasts as soon as the connection returns. While it can't connect, Simoy Marine labels the map as simulated weather so you never mistake it for a real forecast.
My location doesn't work
Simoy Marine needs permission to use your location.
- iPhone and iPad: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Simoy Marine › While Using the App.
- Android: Settings › Apps › Simoy Marine › Permissions › Location › Allow only while using the app.
- Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services, then turn on Simoy Marine.
- Web app: allow location for this site in your browser's site settings.
A forecast looks wrong
Weather models can disagree, especially more than a few days ahead and near land. Open the Models tab to compare them. If one place looks consistently wrong, email me with the place and time.
How do I delete my data?
Everything Simoy Marine stores is on your device. Remove saved spots from Saved, or delete the app to remove everything. In the web app, clear this site's data in your browser settings. See the privacy policy for details.
Safety
Simoy Marine is a planning aid and is not for navigation. Forecasts can be wrong, and storm tracks drawn from model data are not official warnings. Always check your national weather service, official storm bulletins and notices to mariners before you go.
