How to play

Your car starts each stage with a full tank, and fuel drains every second you drive. Touch the glowing cyan fuel cars to top up the tank. Reach the finish line before the tank runs dry to move on to the next stage. Clear all four stages and they return as harder laps. Choose Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert on the main menu before you start.

Common questions

How do I race my friends?

The first time you open the game you create a driver profile with your name and country, and you get your own 5-character player code (shown on the main menu). To host, tap Race with Friends, then Host a race, and send friends your player code (or tap Share invite). Friends open the game, tap Race with Friends, enter your code and tap Join. Up to four drivers can race. Everyone starts side by side on the same road with the same traffic, and you see each other's cars live. The host picks the stage and starts the race; the difficulty is the one selected on the host's menu. Cars of other drivers are see-through and can't be bumped.

How do I change my name or country?

Tap your name at the top of the main menu, change it and tap Save and continue. Your player code stays the same.

How does the world leaderboard work?

Tap Leaderboard on the main menu. Every difficulty has its own board, for the whole world or just your country. Your best single-player score is sent when a run ends (or the next time you're online). To take your name off the board, tap your name on the main menu and choose Remove me from the world leaderboard.

Where are the Game Center and Google Play Games leaderboards?

In the iPhone and Android apps, open Leaderboard on the main menu and tap Open Game Center or Open Google Play Games. Scores go to Apple Game Center or Google Play Games when a single-player run ends, with a separate board for each difficulty. The website version keeps your best scores on your device only.

Can I steer with buttons instead of swiping?

Yes. On the main menu, under the camera view, choose Arrows. Left and right arrow buttons then appear at the bottom left during a race; hold one to steer. Choose Swipe to go back. On a Mac or PC, use the arrow keys or A and D.

What does the steering wheel show?

In first-person view the wheel turns as you steer. Its screen shows your speed, gear, fuel and nitro, and the light strip across the top of the rim fills up with the engine revs (it glows purple while nitro is on).

How do I change my car?

Tap Garage on the main menu. Pick one of 12 cars, then choose its paint, finish, livery, accent color, spoiler and underglow. Changes save automatically, and friends see your car in live races. Every car drives the same, so races and leaderboards stay fair.

How do I switch to first-person view?

Choose Bird's Eye or First person on the main menu before you start. During a race, tap the eye button next to the pause button (or press V on a keyboard) to switch at any time.

Why can't I hear anything?

Check that the speaker button in the top corner isn't crossed out. On iPhone and iPad the game follows the silent switch, so turn the switch off or use headphones.

How do I get a higher score?

Pass other cars at close range for near-miss combos, side-swipe cars into the barrier for takedowns, and finish each stage with fuel to spare: every percent left in the tank is worth 50 points. Harder levels multiply every point you score: ×1.5 on Medium, ×2 on Hard and ×3 on Expert.

Which difficulty should I choose?

Start on Easy or Medium. Easy has light traffic, slower fuel burn and more fuel cars. Hard adds faster, denser traffic, tighter roads and oil slicks from the first stage. Expert is rush hour with scarce fuel and costly wrecks. Each level keeps its own best score.

I keep spinning out. What should I do?

Steer in the opposite direction to the spin and ease off the gas. Watch for oil slicks from the second stage onward.

Is my progress saved?

Your best score for each difficulty, your chosen difficulty and your sound setting are saved on your device. Deleting the app, or clearing this website's data in your browser, resets them. On the website version you can also save your progress with a password and take it to another device (see below).

Can the car accelerate by itself?

Yes. On the main menu, choose Auto gas. The car then keeps accelerating on its own, so you only steer; brake whenever you need to, and it takes over from the gas. Choose Hold gas to go back to holding GAS (or the up arrow).

Can I keep my progress on another device?

Yes, on the website version. Tap your name on the main menu and, under Progress, tap Save with a password. Your player code and password are then all you need: on another phone, tablet or computer, open the driver profile, tap Sign in with your code, and your profile, best scores, car and settings come back. Signed-in devices keep your saved progress up to date by themselves. To remove it, tap Delete account in the same place.

I forgot my player code or password

If you added a recovery email, open the driver profile, tap Sign in with your code, then Forgot your code or password? We’ll email your player code and a reset code. If you’re still signed in on another device, your player code is shown in its driver profile, and you can set a new password there with Change password (leave the current password empty). To add a recovery email, tap your name on the main menu.

Does it need an internet connection?

Only for racing friends and leaderboards. Single-player races in the iOS and Android apps work fully offline. The website version works offline after your first visit.

Is there a version for my computer?

Yes. Open jpam.studio/nightmile in any modern browser and play with the keyboard.
